AFRY Solutions UK Limited is a UK subsidiary of the AFRY Group with 35 employees and a turnover of approximately £5m pa. We specialise in technical consulting and engineering services within the Thermal & Renewable and Nuclear sectors.

Our Thermal & Renewable Section services range from project development and implementation, primarily for biomass or waste-to-energy power plants, to technical Due Diligence for sales/purchase of operating assets. Our Nuclear Section services include nuclear safety case and licensing for new build, current generation and decommissioned assets.

Job Description

AFRY Solutions UK Limited is seeking to recruit an early careers Scientist/Engineer to its Nuclear Business Unit in its Warrington Office. The Unit undertakes a variety of projects in nuclear safety services for a wide range of domestic and international clients.

AFRY offers a challenging career path in one of the world’s leading energy industry consultants. The opportunity exists for a Graduate to join an expanding team of specialists and to assist with the development and implementation of projects in the UK’s Nuclear Business Unit. Collaboration with our international business areas for Energy may also be required.

Under the supervision of experienced team members, you will develop your skills and contribute to projects in the following areas:

  • Hazard Identification techniques
  • Safety and Hazard Analysis
  • Quantified Risk Assessment
  • Engineering design substantiation
  • Option studies
  • Plant and Site licensing
  • Safety case documentation production, review and update

When ready you may also work directly with client organisations.

Your potential will be developed by a combination of structured training and hands on experience, and there is the prospect of responsibility at an early stage. Assistance will be provided in support of achieving professional qualifications.

Qualifications

Candidate Requirements – Essential

  • A good BSc or MSc in a relevant STEM subject.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Due to the sensitive classification of the work this position is only available to British nationals.

Depending on experience, the candidate should also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • An interest in the nuclear sector
  • Strong oral communication skills, to assist working within project teams and for liaison with clients.
  • Strong written communication skills for input to reports, studies, proposals and specifications.
  • Willingness to work in a variety of different roles.
  • Willingness to work away from home office on UK projects for extended periods of time or abroad involving short stays.

Additional Candidate Requirements

Experience of one or more of the following would be an advantage but not essential:

  • Some nuclear project experience
