About the job

The AAB Apprenticeship Programme is a fantastic alternative route into a career in accountancy and business advisory. Instead of going to university, you will start to study towards your chosen professional qualification just one year after commencement of employment at AAB. With a clear career path outlined practical experience is gained from day one, with routes to professional qualifications discussed and agreed at the time when the trainee is ready to take on this study commitment.

As part of our apprenticeship programme, you will also be joining our other trainees undertaking internship, student placement and graduate trainee roles and learning alongside them. We are a very social firm, value good relationships and encourage participation in the numerous sports, social and fundraising events organised by our Social Club and through AABi, our dedicated charitable initiative.

We are currently looking for school and college leavers to join our Business Advisory team in our Edinburgh Office.

The Business Advisory Accounting Services team at AAB provide proactive planning and compliance services for owner managed businesses from commencement to cessation. The joined up approach of accounting services, tax, VAT and planning solutions allows our apprentices variety and a wide range of experience in a busy and challenging team environment.

Professional Qualification

There are a number of professional qualification options available with the firm:

  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT)

Study leave is provided and we will fully fund your training and exams for the first sitting.

Whilst you are training with us you will be supported by the entire team, including our dedicated Training and Development Manager.

We encourage our trainees to become all-round business advisors and so along with professional study we place equal priority on providing support to enhance the development of professional skills, including presentation, communication and teamwork.

Entry Requirements

We are looking for:

  • candidates who are passionate and enthusiastic about pursuing their career with AAB
  • minimum of ABBB Higher grades achieved at first attempt
  • National 5’s English and Maths at minimum grade B, or equivalent
  • Credit will be given to students who have studied Accounting, Economics and/or Business Management, or gained work experience in a business environment, however these are not essential requirements.

The most important part of our recruitment process is finding students who can demonstrate our people qualities. We assess all candidates who join the firm at any level against these values.

As we move forward into the future we are utilising more and more technology in the accountancy and business advisory industry, therefore a knowledge and interest in technology is desired.

Please note that for those applying in their 5th year of study or before they have received their Highers results, offers made will be conditional upon results received.

Successful applicants will begin their training with us during the summer of 2022.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 25 March 2022.
