The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Radioactive Waste and Decommissioning Consultant to join our growing team of nuclear consultants at our prestigious offices based in Bristol, Warrington or Glasgow. Atkins has a diverse portfolio of clients across the UK and overseas (such as Sweden, UAE and Canada) and you will therefore have the opportunity for a variety of exciting work and experiences. You will provide specialist advice during the design, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities and be responsible for the production of the environmental and waste management documentation required under Site Licence Conditions and the Environmental Permit.

You will be responsible for the delivery of technical deliverables both for and on-behalf of our clients.

You may also take a leading role in our team with oversight of technical delivery, managing a team of individuals and contributing to client strategy. We will support you to develop your current level of technical, project and leadership skills through targeted training and continual professional development.

  • You will be degree qualified in a science (physics or chemistry) or engineering (mechanical or process) subject. As a minimum you will have sound technical background, with knowledge and experience of nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management practices, development of waste management strategies and characterisation with a track record of delivery; however, experience will be considered from other highly regulated industries. Additionally, it would be of benefit to have experience of optioneering studies, waste packaging and transportation, and nuclear reactor chemistry.
  • You will need some experience of leadership and people management.
  • You will need to be a good communicator (both verbally and written) as the role involves building key relationships with a variety of stakeholders including clients, operators and designers. You will also have experience completing projects to time, quality and cost.
