Group Health and Safety Leader
£65,000 - £85,000 plus benefits including car allowance (Work Level 4)

We're looking for a Group Health and Safety Leader to join us and help us develop and drive the Health & Safety strategy across the Co-op. In this role, we'll look to you to embed a culture where all colleagues play their part in creating a safe and healthy work environment. You'll provide support, oversight and challenge management on Health and Safety Management effectiveness within the business. It's a big job in a complex, multi-faceted organisation. What you'll do
* act as the subject matter authority in developing and maintaining Health & Safety overarching Co-op policies aligned to current and emerging legislation
* act as the centre of expertise for the business Health & Safety teams to drive improved awareness across the business
* develop and maintain your own relationships at all levels of seniority - working with key influencers and partners on a regular basis
* maintain the robust governance and reporting of Health & Safety related matters, examining business trends and business recommendations for action
* provide oversight and assurance of business activity
* maintain and identify areas of improvement for effective systems for reporting information, providing opportunities for root cause analysis and effective triage
* act as the subject matter authority to support and collaborate with business areas in their response to formal enforcement and appropriate actions needed
* ensure appropriate assignment of responsibility and accountability in relation to Health & Safety to enable sufficient resources to be understood and deployed
* champion a culture of continuous improvement to develop and promote positive action

This role would suit people who have
* a degree or equivalent in Health & Safety Management
* experience of Health & Safety Management in a large, complex and regulated organisations (preferably including retail or logistics)
* demonstrated ability to develop and maintain key relationships with senior partners
* strong influencing skills to challenge appropriately
* technical expertise with highly engaging and inspiring influencing style which works at all levels
* the ability to develop pragmatic solutions that enable delivery of commercial outcomes in a safe and compliant way
* the ability to translate complex matters into simple and business-area appropriate language and present findings at senior meetings/committees Why Co-op?
