About the Project

United Utilities is a key customer with the Costain Water sector customer with a new Managed Service Provider (MSP) framework contract secured and mobilised by Costain in mid 2019 for an initial period of five years with an option to extend to ten years. Under the contract Costain will provide overall management and delivery of United Utilities’ larger-scale water and waste water asset maintenance activities across the entirety of its network, including 96 water treatment and 575 wastewater treatment sites, which serves over six million people in the North West of England.

The MSP contract involves the management and provision of 24×7 maintenance support across UU and thus is an extremely high-profile service operating at the heart of the client’s business.

The role is predominantly home based, with travel to operational sites across the region on a periodic basis.

Working Pattern: 45 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Role Purpose

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Quality Lead to drive high standards of delivery and continual improvement across all aspects of our framework. This is a diverse role with key involvement across various reactive and planned maintenance workstreams.

The role will cover quality planning and continual development across our management systems, performance reporting, processes, and business assurance to meet internal and external stakeholder needs.

Key responsibilities

Ensuring the processes and management systems in place meet the minimum requirements as set out in the Costain Way to control risk and ensure efficient delivery (e.g. Gates and Must Do statements)

Driving the creation and delivery of the quarterly improvement plan in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team

Measuring and reporting on Key Performance Indicators and service levels, using, and developing dashboards within our Power BI platform (in collaboration with the Project Controls and Digital Leads

Implementing and continually improving processes for measuring and reporting management system performance and effectiveness

Lead and coordinate the preparation, maintenance and continuous improvement of management system documentation including the Framework Management Plan, contract-related business processes, procedures, and work instructions

Working in collaboration with the Group Business Assurance team to ensure the contract is delivered in line with quality expectations

Interfacing with client teams as the Costain management system representative, including leading or attending meetings or audits pertinent to contract processes, advising, developing, and recommending procedures of work

Coordinating any external audits, such as the Controls Audit Verification (2nd line of defence) or BSi Audits (3rd line of defence)

Implementing and maintaining the Quality Maturity Matrix for MSP and as part of the targets for OEM

Candidate Specification

Experience in a similar role

Excellent IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Word & PowerPoint, Visio and Power BI tools

Strong process mapping and writing skills

Excellent and articulate communicator (verbally and written)

Ability to work as a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders at all levels of an organisation

Have appropriate experience of quality management systems including good knowledge and practical experience of developing, implementing, and improving processes.

Relevant training such as CQI, Lean Six Sigma, ISO

Experience of working within an engineering environment and understanding of the project lifecycle

Be a competent management systems auditor

Be a member of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) and hold CQP status (or an equivalent recognised Quality body).
