Job Title: Executive Principal
Grade: Leadership – salary up to £120,000 annually
Accountable to: Chief Executive Officer
The White Rose Academies Trust is a Leeds-based multi-academy trust with a highly aspirational vision to be a catalyst of change within the communities it proudly serves. The Trust consists of three secondary schools – Leeds City Academy, Leeds East Academy and Leeds West Academy, and welcomed its first primary school (Alder Tree Primary Academy) on 1st December 2020. The Executive Principal is a key member of the trust’s executive leadership team, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The Executive Principal will also act as Deputy CEO when required.
This sector leading executive leadership role will provide the successful candidate with excellent professional development opportunities, with a specific focus on preparing this colleague to lead their own trust in the future.
Our new Executive Principal will be fortunate to work closely with an excellent group of academy principals, who are highly experienced in leading their schools and ensuring that they are anchor institutions for the communities they serve. The trust also employs a talented group of colleagues in our central team, who equally share the ambitions of our principals and who strive each day to be a solution focused resource to our schools.
NB: All post-holders at White Rose Academies Trust are responsible for improving the outcomes for learners and upholding the ethos of the academies. Keeping Children Safe In Education and the guidance for safer working practice direct the work of every adult working at or associated with the White Rose Academies Trust.
Purpose Of Job
Being accountable for the education of all pupils across the trust, the Executive Principal will provide professional leadership for the academies to secure their success and improvement.
By working with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors and Local Accountability Boards, motivating and supporting all staff and managing the principals of the academies, the Executive Principal will ensure that all pupils benefit from high quality education and achieve high standards.
The Executive Principal is also the Deputy CEO of the trust and works closely with the CEO in shaping and implementing the trust’s highly aspirational strategy.
The Executive Principal will be an experienced leader with a track record of sustained impact and influence. The Executive Principal will demonstrate a solid understanding in the formulation and implementation of strategy, evidenced by sustained and significant school-wide improvement.
The Executive Principal will have line management responsibilities for academy principals, the school improvement team, and other trust professionals as appropriate.
NB: The post-holder will be expected to travel between all academies within the trust and on certain days may be required to work beyond normal hours in order to attend meetings, academy/trust events or to complete work.
All post-holders at the White Rose Academies Trust are responsible for improving the outcomes for learners and upholding the ethos of the academies.
Executive Leadership General Duties And Responsibilities
The duties outlined in the job description are in addition to those covered by the latest School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document, which should be read in conjunction with this document. The job description is based on the National Standards for Excellence for Executive Headteachers (DfE, 2020) which promote excellence as standard. These include:
Ensure the principles expressed in the mission statement of the White Rose Academies Trust are evident in every aspect of the discharge of the duties of the post.
Drive up expectations and promote an aspirational culture.
Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Take a corporate view of policy implementation and an appropriate share of the many and varied tasks required of academy trust leaders.
Conduct reviews of the academies and departments within, which identify strengths and areas for development.
Work effectively with the CEO, and the Chair of the Board of Directors to enable the trust to meet its responsibilities for securing effective teaching and learning and high standards of achievement, and for achieving efficiencies and value for money.
Develop positive external relationships at a local and strategic level, in partnership with the White Rose Academies Trust, Luminate Education Group and others, to promote the continued development of the academies, as a central resource for the community.
Work closely with the Board of the White Rose Academies Trust, its academies, strategic partners and stakeholders.
Work in conjunction with community, business and industry partners and other local community and educational organisations to develop reciprocal opportunities.
