Who are we?
Ark Teacher Training is an ‘Outstanding’ school-based Initial Teacher Training programme that allows graduates and career changers to learn from some of the best teachers and leaders in the profession. You’ll be based in a school from day one, having an impact straight away.

Training for your teaching qualification in Birmingham, you’ll have the chance to transform children’s lives in a diverse and exciting teaching environment in one of the UK’s most vibrant cities. You would be based in one of our four Birmingham secondary schools:
- Ark Boulton Academy (Secondary school) Sparkbrook, Birmingham
- Ark Kings Academy (All-through school) Kings Norton, Birmingham
- Ark St Alban’s Academy (Secondary school) Highgate, Birmingham
- Ark Victoria Academy (All-through school) Small Heath, Birmingham
How is the programme structured?
The Programme Provides The perfect Balance Of Theory And Practice And At The End Of Your First Year You’ll Have Achieved The Following
Unlike a university-based PGCE, you will be based in a school of your choice spending the whole academic year with your students watching them progress, as well as seeing your own development.
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- PGCE (postgraduate certificate in education) in your chosen teaching subject
What support is available to me during the programme?
Teacher training can be challenging, but the Ark Teacher Training team and wider network will support you including:
- In-school coach
- Weekly training sessions
- Ark Teacher Training tutor
- Peer-to-peer support
- have a grade C or above in Maths and English language GCSE
- hold (or will hold) an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) prior to beginning your Initial Teacher Training
- A qualification in the subject you wish to teach e.g Degree or A-level
- have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the programme
- not currently hold Qualified Teacher Status.
