About the job
<!--> NATIONAL TRUST
The National Trust was started by people who wanted everyone to benefit from greenspace and our shared built heritage. To do this effectively we recognise the need to increase the focus on places where most people live – towns and cities.
In the North we have a co-ordinated programme based on insight and evidence to enable us to have the greatest impact on where the need is greatest. Our focus is on two city regions of Manchester and Newcastle/Gateshead.
We are delivering and further developing a range of projects and initiatives designed to address unequal access to beauty, nature and history. You’ll lead the sub-regional Urban Places resource managing the overall Greater Manchester urban programme.
Salary is from £51,221 pa.
Assessment day will be held 12th October in Manchester.
What it's like to work here
We have a unique opportunity in Manchester to lead the ongoing development and delivery of a broad programme of urban projects to address unequal access to nature, beauty and history in the city region.
You'll hold a pivotal role with responsibility to work with a range of people within the Trust and develop strategic partnerships with external organisations around shared agendas.
Based at our Manchester office, you’ll work across Greater Manchester linking with local team and the broader national urban community in the Trust.
What you'll be doing
You’ll have knowledge of the challenges and opportunities faced by urban places in the 21st Century and the role that the National Trust and sector partners could play in delivering public benefit through the work we do to improve access to nature, history and beauty for the nation. In particular, there will be a priority on urban green initiatives, delivering to communities and places where need is the greatest. As urban areas are interwoven systems there will also be opportunities to consider projects that combine nature, history and beauty, such as the recently announced Castlefield Viaduct.
You’ll need to balance core programme management skills with the ability to be pragmatic, matrix working across many parts of the National Trust and actively engaging with external stakeholders at a senior level to develop effective partnerships.
You’ll be responsible for facilitating evidence-led decisions, including developing and commissioning new research to ‘make the case’ for Greater Manchester urban projects as well as supporting the technical delivery as appropriate. Although comfortable working in detail, you’ll have an awareness of the big picture and apply strategic thinking.
You’ll be responsible for leading and co-ordinating people resource working on the urban programme and support others on technical issues relating to wider urban challenges and opportunities relating to urban built heritage and greenspace.
You’ll be part of a regional and national team who are working on this agenda as we evolve our thinking and approach in the organisation. You’ll have the opportunity to work with other ‘city’ leads who are doing similar work in London, Birmingham and Newcastle. You’ll also play a part in the North West Leadership team, helping drive the organisation’s strategy through our current properties and other places we want to influence.
Due to the nature of the work we do and the experiences we offer, you will occasionally need to work evenings and be happy to travel.
