Summary

A fantastic opportunity has come up for an experienced engineer to work as part of a global Virtualisation team. The ideal person will have strong inter-personal and communication skills. You will be comfortable working in a culturally diverse and geographically dispersed working environment and be able to interact positively and proactively with your peers and the leadership team. You will have strong problem-solving skills and be self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and deliver to given SLAs. The successful candidate will act as a 3rd line engineer, supporting and maintaining the global virtualization estate (VMware & Hyper-V), storage, compute systems and services. Your primary focus will be to manage the on-premise estate.

Please note the role is a FTC-6 months- With commuting to the Data Centre in Berkshire

Key Responsibilities

  • On-point as 3rd line technical resource for Data Center to Co-Lo migration project.
  • Racking/Stacking/Installing/cabling compute & storage systems in Co-Lo.
  • Ability to design complex technical solutions and provide input into projects and technical documents.
  • Technical experience managing enterprise virtualization solutions e.g. vCenter & Host upgrades from one version to another.
  • Management, support & deployment of the VMware Estate – vCenter’s, Hosts & VM’s.
  • Experience of migrating large numbers of VM’s with mixed workloads from one site to another.
  • Configuration, installation, and reconfiguration of enterprise Server/Storage systems.
  • Experience of automating tasks & config using tools such as Ansible & Terraform.
  • 3rd Line Systems Engineering Support
  • Updating in-house technical documentation
  • Hardware Break/Fix & Refresh – lifecycle management
  • Ability to travel UK wide if required. (Co-Lo located in Slough)

Key Skills

  • Experience of Data Centre/Co-Lo migrations
  • VMware vSphere 6.7 – vCenter, PSC, Site Recovery Manager, vSphere Distributed Switch
  • Compute Systems (e.g. Dell FX2 Chassis & Blade, PowerEdge)
  • Storage Systems (e.g. HPE Nimble SAN & Dell ME/MD)
  • Replication Services – Nimble replication & vSphere Replication
  • Ansible – Automation of config management
  • Experience of monitoring tools such as Nagios, Dell OpenManage, Grafana & Prometheus.
  • Infoblox DNS/DHCP Appliances
  • Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP and networking technologies.

Desirable Skills

  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Any scripting/automation/programming languages, knowledge and understanding of SDLC
