About the function…

System Operator are passionate about capacity. We craft tomorrow’s railway to meet future needs of the rail industry. By understanding what the future requirements of the railway are, we can plan the long-term capability of the network, promoting the efficient use of network capacity. We improve the railway for the millions of people who use it every single day.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for x4 Data Assistants to joining the Capacity Planning National teams, you will assist the team in carrying out activities which support the operational planning process.Daily activity will include creating and maintaining team workload reporting, working with operators and internal capacity planning teams to ensure data errors are rectified within our train planning system and completing core team processes such as timetable publication & safety related data tasks.Completion of these activities are fundamental in increasing the productivity of the team and the team’s ability to be better every day.

The Capacity Planning team balance the requirements of operators to use the network for passengers and freight trains, and the pressing need to spend time maintaining, renewing and enhancing the network. Our teams build detailed plans to offer reliable train paths while making sure we’re flexible enough to respond to future changes. And with the increasing demand on the network, this team has a key role to play in this transformation. We have an ambitious business plan and support of the industry to dramatically improve our product delivery and a number of strategically significant programme’s in-stream to support this change. We cover a wide range of responsibilities across programmes, analysis, access planning and timetable development and production.

About The Role (External)

What does the average day look like?

Day to day you will be involved in actioning safety critical data processes to ensure a robust timetable is published downstream in a timely manner. You will manage platforming and station workings at critical key locations on the railway infrastructure network. Which will also include you to undertake checks of data change and maintain accurate records of data change whilst reporting the status.

You will work within an agreed timeframes to ensure SLA’s are met. As well as undertaking data maintenance and cleansing activities to ensure Capacity Planning’s data integrity. Making sure you accurately import operator bid data files entering Capacity Planning’s systems. You will also communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders and support continuous improvement activities, providing measurable benefits to the achievement of Capacity Planning’s business plan. Overall, you will undertake the role in a way that is consistent with, and reinforces, Network Rails behaviours

What essential skills and experiences are required?

  • Previous experience in data management activities
  • Proven ability to work systematically, accurately and meet deadlines
  • Proven competence working with IT systems
  • Good communication and organisational skills
