About the role
As County Adviser you will be coordinating NFU activity within Dorset and working to support NFU members. You will be a key local source of knowledge as well as being able to offer advice and guidance on technical, agricultural, food chain and land-based policy as well as NFU membership matters. You will be able to network effectively, with a broad range of stakeholders, bringing individuals together to energise lobbying campaigns and promote NFU causes. You will support the work of allocated NFU Boards or Forums to ensure that sector views from across the South West Region are fed into national policy.
You will manage a team of nine Group Secretaries, who promote the NFU and its services at a local level. You and your team are responsible for hitting membership growth targets set annually. You will also work closely with, support, guide and advise your county team of elected farming officeholders and representatives.
Most importantly, you will be able to establish a firm connection with the local membership and ensure their views are heard. To make that member connection, you will have an in-depth knowledge of current farming, related food and land use issues and have a real passion for agriculture, whether gained through your education, your background and/or your experience. Knowledge of the local area and its agricultural/food/land-based business landscape would be ideal but not essential.
You are sociable and friendly, outgoing and a good communicator. One of your strengths is that you are people orientated and enjoy building lasting business relationships, often tending to see the positive side of things. You have strong influencing skills, are driven and have a sense of urgency to get things done. You like variety and are energetic in your work approach, and you are keen to develop yourself professionally.

Why join our team?
You will become part of our friendly, dedicated working environment and joining a highly motivated team, who are recognised for their knowledge, expertise and passion about food, farming and the countryside. They will work to support you day to day, alongside central colleagues. In addition to this we also offer, 25 days annual leave (plus, statutory bank holidays), increasing with length of service, company car provision and an attractive contributory, stakeholder pension scheme.
You will be flexible, willing and able to travel in the South West region, with the emphasis on being regularly in Dorset. We are currently piloting a ‘hybrid working’ scheme that gives colleagues the potential to work based from home for up to 3 days a week (dependant on business needs). There is a requirement to be highly visible within the county and, to be out and about proactively, on behalf of the NFU with members, stakeholders and your county teams.
