Typical Work Hours/Shift

This position does cleaning, laundry, and errands for those who meet eligibility for the program. Work is located in the client’s home and travel is required with paid mileage between clients. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This particular position is 25 hours per week and is benefit eligible

Position Purpose

Under general supervision of the Supervisor of Supportive Home Care, the Homemaker Aide provides a variety of household chores needed to maintain the consumer’s standard of cleanliness and order to help ensure the continued independent living arrangement of the consumer.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are most critical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Performs shopping and runs errands for consumer.
  • Performs light housekeeping chores including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, dusting, scouring, etc., to ensure a standard of cleanliness which meets the expectations of the client and the Plan of Care.
  • Changes bed linen, organizes clothing for washing, and launders items.
  • Maintains complete records and reports such as mileage reports, time spent on tasks, etc.
  • Observes, records, and reports consumer’s mental status and physical changes which includes any significant change in living conditions. Performs assessments by request from Supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and personal facts obtained from clients, family or staff members.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-services, and other programs as required by Supervisor.
  • Acts as socialization source for client, following client’s preference as to degree of interest.
  • Encourages consumer to maintain current level of functioning or to improve if possible.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.

Education/Certifications/Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED and satisfactory work experience in a similar setting preferred.
  • Or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required Or Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of and skill in the measurement of and use of cleaning products and the proper use of cleaning equipment.
  • Demonstrated reliability in attendance and flexibility to work hours.
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with the elderly.
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with the elderly.
  • Ability to be understanding and tolerant of client’s individual lifestyle.
  • Recognize failing physical or mental health and report findings to supervisor.
  • Ability to effectively use tact and diplomacy with clients, co-workers, professionals, and the general public.
  • Transport oneself from location to location in an efficient and expedient manner.
  • Effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing, and understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Learn and perform basic computer tasks and to figure simple mathematical calculations.
