PepsiCo is currently looking for Civils Design Manager to be based in one of our European hubs (Barcelona, Spain; UK, Poland, Turkey).

Job purpose

To support the Customer Services & Logistics ( CS&L) capital investment & leased facilities program across the Europe Sector, by delivering feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed engineering designs for snacks, beverage, juice, dairy, storage and distribution facilities. The main areas of focus being design, safety, operability, sustainability, productivity, utilities, selection and integration of M&E/Automation equipment. You will:

  • Utilise technical expertise to develop robust solutions that de-risk the business and deliver optimum operational efficiency.
  • Support delivery of CS&L projects including owning PepsiCo Standards and Specifications for Warehouse Civils Design, managing; process design, natural hazard reviews & loss prevention best practice (FM Global), equipment vendor management, NPD, tender reviews, capital funding applications, and, design & build, commissioning to handover project stages.
  • Lead FM Global assessment of existing facilities and new designs


  • Ability to design, specify and layout buildings related to CS&L designs from manual to automated engineered solutions in The PepsiCo Way (Faster, Stronger, Better).
  • For CS&L engineered solutions, define and lead the capital investment program and engineering support across the full project life-cycle. Ensuring compliance to standards, legislation and safety. Working in partnership with BU Engineering teams to meet the Operational Growth within the sector.
  • Defining and Gate-keeping standards and specifications associated with civils engineering within CS&L and other CTS projects
  • Lead technical input into the CS&L Engineering Agenda liaising with internal teams; Global Procurement, MOS, R&D, Innovation Groups, Commercialisation and Marketing teams.
  • For CS&L Engineering accountability for working with key suppliers to ensure compliance to standards and legislation such as CE marking, PepsiCo MESS and associated safety schemes. Targeting first class service to the Sector, delivered through extensive collaboration with Execute, EHS, Quality & Food safety and Operational teams.
  • Ability to effectively influence, negotiate , and communicate with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors
  • Responsible for the detailed design work including authoring URSs (User Requirement Specifications), critiquing FDSs (Functional Design Specifications), ensuring Designer Risk Assessments are properly completed, providing costs, quotations and detailed scope builds.
  • Ability to switch from a ‘strategic view’ to ‘hands on’ approach as key decisions are made.Develop current & future warehouse conceptual layouts in-line with field requirements and LEAN design principles:
  • Develop concept engineering layouts in-line with customers project requirements and produce cost estimates to serve as basis for business decisions and Capex preparation
  • Use technical expertise and knowledge of technologies to develop accurate layouts for CS&L team to act as basis for scoping and commercial tendering with vendors.
  • Provide field support and coordination of vendors (manual & automated equipment, control and inventory systems ) for new warehouse facilities including High-Bay ASRS and clad rack structures up to 40 metres tall.
  • Provide field support by facilitating project meetings through layout and design discussions.
  • Drive value engineering and LEAN design solutions by direct contact with Project Managers and external suppliers, and, utilise expert knowledge.
  • Occasional flexibility to support other civils & infrastructure agendas/initiatives.


  • Technical degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering
  • Proven technical experience within civils design projects (ideally with large scale industrial projects)
  • Ability to view and review layouts in Autocad 2D and navigate 3D drawings
  • Experience in production of engineering/technical standards and specifications
  • Technical understanding of process automation design and warehouse building services ( Electrical power / HVAC)
  • Knowledge of F&B engineering technologies and knowledge of engineering projects management across multiple disciplines (M&E) with understanding of legal, QCFS and H&S requirements to deliver compliant design of projects
  • Knowledge of greenfield land searches, planning processes and building regulations
  • Knowledge of sustainable /low GHG construction and operation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to influence at senior levels within the organisation
  • Great analytical & presentation skills – ability to interpret complex data and distil into useful and actionable information
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues/solutions to a non-technical audience
  • Self-starter, self-motivating – able to deal with uncertainty and complexity
  • Knowledge of Lean systems design principles would be advantageous
  • Flexible and open for international travel to meet business needs.
