Schneider Electric Sustainability, Cleantech and Renewables Services, part of Schneider’s Energy & Sustainability Services (ESS) division, provides support and leadership to some of the world’s best known commercial and industrial (C&I) organizations on diversifying their portfolios to include renewable energy and emerging energy technologies. With the rapid expansion of C&I interest in renewables globally and in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region specifically, Schneider is seeking to expand its team in Europe through the hiring of one or more experienced professionals.

The Director, Renewable Energy and Carbon Advisory will have responsibility for the commercial client relationships and revenue growth within the renewable energy advisory and PPA business line in the EMEA region, reporting directly to the Vice President of Global Renewables and Cleantech. Specifically this will entail the management of and responsibility for the client-facing renewable energy and carbon advisory team, leading to successful outcomes for clients. The Director will be expected to work closely with the existing team in Operations and Business Development, as well as the established team of colleagues throughout the world. He or she will be expected to personally perform all parts of the job as necessary, and to further grow and manage a team of senior cleantech professionals in the consulting/client advisory functions. Current team size is 8, with ambition for significant growth in the coming years.

In addition, this role will work with other Schneider leaders to provide strategic direction, management and vision toward the rapid growth the overall number of Schneider C&I clients in EMEA and improve the delivery of high-impact services and solutions. Position responsibilities:


  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for growth of EMEA cleantech business both internally and externally
  • Refine process procedures in new country markets based on successful execution of other PPA processes. Work with internal European teams to document refined processes for individual markets as necessary
  • Support market development and rapid business growth through networking, research, content creation and review, and attending and speaking at external events
  • Lead the recruitment and hiring of new team members
  • Train new hires and other stakeholders on VPPA structure and process and value proposition
  • Support team personal growth and professional development
  • Interact with EMEA and global Cleantech leadership on progress and growth of European PPA and renewable energy advisory market

Client Management/Delivery of Services (personally perform as needed, and hire/train/manage a team to):

  • Track, manage and play the role of ‘executive sponsor’ on entire suite of C&I engagements in EMEA region.
  • Provide projections to senior management on progress toward deal closure and completion of engagements, manage staffing, budget and processes.
  • Assist clients with successful execution of a PPA and other renewable energy services in EMEA region. Lead project management process including timeline and deliverables, coordination of a wide variety of client and Schneider stakeholders, financial and qualitative decision criteria evaluation and contract negotiations
  • Assist Cleantech colleagues to manage sustainable energy strategies and consulting services beyond PPAs, such as other clean technology solutions, feasibility studies, and market research for clients
  • Understand European market nuances (pricing structures, country incentives, legislation, etc.) sufficiently to advise corporate clients on benefits and risks appropriately.

Essential skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Energy, Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience managing complex, high-stakes projects involving the highest organizational levels of large corporations
  • Experience with onsite and/or offsite utility-scale wind and solar development and the renewable energy industry. Preferred previous exposure to structuring and negotiating Power Purchase Agreements in EMEA region specifically.
  • Ability to communicate, both written and verbally, analyses and ideas in a concise, effective manner to the intended audience.
  • Experience directing the work of project teams and managing people
  • High commitment to company vision, values and excellent customer service
  • Analytical self-starter with strong attention to detail
  • Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Office Products, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English required, additional languages preferred (German, Spanish or French)
