Job Description

We are looking for a Product Strategy Manager to support the development of innovative consumer energy products, working closely with internal Shell teams and the wider Shell portfolio of customer-facing companies.

Where you fit in

You will be part of the Consumer Energy Product Hub, situated within Shell Renewables and Energy Solutions. The team is consisting of passionate product innovators, designers and user researchers coming from various backgrounds and bringing in diverse skillsets and perspectives. Your core responsibility will be to identify new opportunities, turn them into new product concepts and then into Minimum Viable Products.

To do so, you will need to build on your experience in the residential energy space, be able to understand the needs of target customers and determine best product-market fit. You will be structuring the business models that deliver value to the customer and value to the business, making each product a valuable contributor to the overall group Customer Lifetime Value.

You will provide competitive intelligence on disruptive business models in the residential energy sector. You will be involved in the product development process from early discovery phase through to launching an MVP and measuring its success. You will need to understand and be able to articulate product strategy from a Minimum Viable Product through to a fully commercialised solution.

What’s the role?

As a Product Strategy Manager, you will ensure our robust understanding of customers, energy markets and technologies, and help design the best routes to market for new solutions. This is a hands-on role in an outcome-driven team where you will be expected to drive your workstreams forward by yourself.

Other Responsibilities Include

  • Conducting sophisticated research and analysis on residential energy market trends and competitive business models;
  • Leading business workstream through discovery phase and concept development, leveraging different sources of insights (such as energy data sets or user research), with a particular focus on articulating compelling business model options for new propositions. This may be to support a project, or – in future – lead your own.
  • Using your knowledge and experience in residential electricity market to ensure we design innovative and viable business models for our products
  • Collaborating with cross-functional and cross-business teams to get a holistic understanding of customers’ problems and market opportunities;
  • Working closely with Marketing, Product, Tech & Digital Development teams across the Shell portfolio, to ensure best user experience for any new business & product proposition.

What we need from you?

We are looking for thorough understanding of the power markets, with a special focus on (and experience in) residential supply and home energy solutions. You will be familiar with customer focused B2C start-ups and have thorough understanding of their business models and paths to profitability. Ability to analyse commercial performance of new tech companies and to transfer business model ideas from sector to sector will be a huge advantage.

Furthermore, We Hope You Possess The Following Skills

  • Familiar with key product development methods and processes enabling fast innovation
  • Use and manage digital tools enabling collaboration with the team located in different businesses.
  • Excellent communication skills to operate effectively within Shell
  • Clear understanding of the relevant internal processes
  • Ability to connect with relevant stakeholders while building effective ways of working with Shell’s Portfolio companies
