Overview:

Team GB is the British and Northern Irish Olympic team – one of the nation’s most successful teams and one of its favourite brands. Run by the British Olympic Association (BOA), Team GB competes at Olympic and Olympic Winter Games and other events such as the European Games, Youth Olympic Games and European Youth Olympic Festivals.

The BOA is independent and privately funded. Our success is entirely dependent upon the income we receive from our commercial programmes, including but not limited to sponsorship, fundraising, licensing and events.

Team GB is the public-facing brand of the BOA and with over 3.5m followers across its channels has a highly engaged and passionate audience. With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on the horizon and so close to home, the BOA has set out on an exciting new strategic path to refresh its brand, invest in data and generate new forms of content to grow our audiences and further engage the nation in support of our team and athletes.

Scope:

The Commercial Manager will have day to day management of BOA relationships with a selected portfolio of Olympic sponsors. This will include responsibility for all relationship, activation and contractual issues arising within the specific sponsors and their agencies.

In addition, the postholder will manage and advise on sponsor activations to ensure all activations are in line with the agendas of the numerous stakeholders.

There may also be scope to project manage or support with ad-hoc commercial events and related campaigns

and to support on new business efforts as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Servicing

1. Opportunity to work with leading brands to support their partnership activation e.g. adidas and British Airways

2. Excellent client servicing and relationship management of the Team GB sponsors

3. Effectively manage the delivery of the sponsor’s contractual rights at Team GB events, programmes, communications and digital platforms

4. Provide solid guidance and advice about do’s/don’ts with regards to Olympic activation

5. Ensure the sponsors represent the BOA and Team GB brand correctly in all collateral and communication by following the BOA’s approvals process

6. Liaise with the National Governing Bodies and athletes’ agents regarding Team GB athlete requirements for sponsors and facilitate appearance requests as required

7. Advise sponsors on activation and campaign planning

8. Identify upsell opportunities where appropriate e.g. digital packages, hospitality or internal engagement programme

9. Work with sponsors on delivering VIK needs for Team GB to ensure maximum performance at Olympic Games

10. Gathering partnership campaign results and creating case studies

Project Management

11. Working with delivery agencies, oversee the planning and delivery of various commercial event programmes (including fundraising events, mass participation and fan activations)

12. Support the integration of all programmes with BOA channels and activity using effective project management tools

13. Efficiently co-ordinate multiple stakeholders, agreements and timeframes

14. Ensure sponsor contractual rights are delivered

15. Deliver all projects on time and on budget

16. Represent commercial team and partners in various organisation wide working groups (e.g. Kitting Out Event planning)

General Commercial Team responsibilities

17. Day to day liaison with wider BOA departments such as Marketing, Comms and Legal

18. Presenting to Senior Leadership Team as required

19. Plan, co-ordinate and deliver quarterly Partner Workshops

20. Maintain contact databases and project tracking documents

21. Maintain excellent financial records including invoicing and sales order processes

22. Assist with development of sales collateral, support new business efforts and conduct sponsorship research as required

23. Line management of commercial executive

Relationships and Interfaces:

All BOA Commercial team, other divisions within the BOA regarding sponsor operations, including:

· Marketing and Communications

· Legal

· Games Services

· Athlete Services

Team GB and Olympic Commercial Partners and their agencies.

Person Specification:

Skills:

Core IT skills in Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential

Knowledge:

Sponsorship activation

Project Management

Client relationship management tools and techniques

Excellent understanding and experience of management of sponsorship contracts

Qualifications:

Relevant University Qualifications or equivalent work experience

Experience:

5+ years Partnership Client Management with clear evidence of delivery within structured timescales

Personal Qualities:

Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change and uncertainty

Ability to work with a varied group of stakeholders

Proactive and positive attitude

Enjoys being part of a team
