Role Overview

Regional Export Sales Manager is responsible for growing both the Underwater Systems Business whilst achieving the Order Intake identified within the agreed budget forecasts. The role will require extensive liaison with export customers. Other activities outside of this core requirement will be required on occasions.

Primary Purpose Of The Role

  • Establish and own the strategic relationship with senior members of customer organisation
  • Present the whole of the Maritime product/capability to the customer on a regular basis
  • Support the international Underwater Systems (UWS) Business in the winning and executing of profitable business
  • Maintain an overview of all Thales programs and projects being delivered to the customer.
  • Identify new business opportunities related to the Maritime Systems and UWS activities
  • Establish strong relationships with customers in targeted countries of interest.

Main Duties Of The Role

  • Establish regular meetings with key customer contacts
  • Provide capture information (and act as capture lead if required to Ad Hoc Review stage) to relevant Businesses
  • Engage and establish relationships across other industrial companies that work within the specific account and analyse their capabilities
  • Provide Customer information to support S&M forecasts and Bids.
  • Develop messages and themes for relevant shows and events
  • De-conflict any issues in internal positioning and strategy to ensure good partnering behaviour is followed
  • Increase the size of the account by at least 30% over 3 years and identify at least one new major business opportunity in the first 12 months.
  • Provide customer technical requirements and capability gaps to inform the R&D and Product Line Management process
  • Develop campaigns and strategies
  • Generate new revenue streams in 2018-23
  • Improve P2 (Thales chance of winning the opportunity) through customer knowledge
  • Deliver new opportunities to Ad Hoc Review stage
  • If applicable, build relationship with relevant Account Managers in other countries.

Candidate Specification

  • Strong understanding of the military maritime environment
  • Has briefed senior customers on a regular basis
  • Good knowledge and experience of the broader Maritime Market
  • Good engineering experience of Sonar Systems (knowledge of other Sensor systems and Combat Systems would be an advantage).
  • Degree level qualification preferably (or though not essential)
  • A proven track record of developing trusted senior level relationships
  • Holding or able to achieve Security Clearance, up to DV level
  • Has had experience and success with export campaigns

Be able to gain buy-in from others when designing and implementing organisational solutions.
  • A strong business and commercial acumen, able to view margin, man-hours, performance, etc. to ensure accurate and profitable pricing.
  • Be able to assimilate information quickly and make necessary management decisions in a timely and concise manner.

Location: Templecombe or Cheadle, although some flexibility
