About the job

LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university

Philanthropy and Global Engagement

Deputy Director of Operations

Salary from £65,171 to £80,790 pa (inclusive of London Allowance)

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced professional to lead our excellent operations teams in LSE’s Philanthropy and Global Engagement division (PAGE), right in the heart of campus. This new role is a key part of our leadership team and is critical in shaping structures and processes to enable the success of our wider division.

LSE is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning and research in the world. Founded in 1895, LSE counts 18 Nobel prize winners among its alumni and staff. We have a dynamic and high-profile Director, Baroness Minouche Shafik and a bold new strategy for the School, LSE 2030.

In November 2021, we launched the public phase of Shaping the World, our major £350 million philanthropy and engagement Campaign to underpin LSE 2030 goals and to help shape the world for good through the process. More than 50% of our Campaign goal has been raised in three and a half years and there is huge momentum building as we advance the public phase.

Joining as we build on the launch of the public phase, you will be part of our strategic leadership team in PAGE contributing to strategy and planning. Integral to this is bringing a new trail-blazing CRM to life to enhance the ways in which we can engage and serve our alumni, friends and partners of LSE.

You will utilise your extensive experience and technical expertise to ensure an effective infrastructure of systems, practices, policies, and processes and, through your teams, provide business management services including HR, finance, and office management to the PAGE division. This role supports team members in London, New York and Beijing.

What You Will Bring To The Role

We know you’ll bring a range of skills and ideas to our team, but these are just a few of the qualities we would expect you to share with us:

  • Experience in an operations management role in Higher Education, not-for-profit, or comparable sector
  • Practical management experience in at least one of CRM/database management or gift administration
  • Empathy with and understanding of the issues facing higher education globally and in the UK
  • Experience of working in a large complex organisation
  • Understanding of data protection legislation and how it relates to fundraising/direct marketing activities

It’s not essential but we would love it if you also had:

  • Experience leading a large-scale CRM implementation
  • Experience of leading operations during a complex multi-year fundraising campaign

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
