The DBS Unit is a customer-focused, high-volume and target-driven business area, which plays a vital safeguarding role in ensuring the safety and welfare of children and/or vulnerable adults in the workplace. The Unit is funded entirely by the DBS Agency, but you will be employed by Wiltshire Police. Key Responsibilities Of This Role Include You will assess, review and research incidents identified by DBS Disclosure Coordinators in line with Enhanced Criminal Record Check legislation, case law, human rights legislation and DBS/Home Office/NPCC national guidance in order to establish safeguarding risks towards children and/or vulnerable adults. You will evaluate all information connected to applicants, particularly crimes, occurrences, intelligence (including sensitive and confidential) and non-conviction information together with other relevant information from local force systems. You will then apply knowledge and professional judgement to agreed local and national guidance and in accordance with legislation and case law in order to make informed decisions about the degree, relevance and proportionality of disclosure on an individual case basis. You will be required to prepare written reports including rationales to explain the legitimate safeguarding aim justifying disclosure of police information. Your rationales will be written in compliance with legislation, case law and also address the interference with an applicant’s human rights (ECHR Article 8). You will liaise with other units within the Force and external agencies (such as Social Services, Registered Bodies, the courts, the Local Authority Designated Officer and other police forces) regarding your decision-making process that affects the safeguarding of the vulnerable and employment prospects of the applicants.
