Your new role, what’s involved?

  • We have an opportunity for an assistant lighting designer / lighting designer
  • You will be supporting our Head of Design and the senior members of the team & collaborating with other WSP specialist teams to produce tailor made lighting installations and designs for a wide range of building sectors.
  • You will be meeting and working with architects, interior designers, luminaire manufacturers and of course end clients, taking briefs and producing lighting designs.
  • We also work with our NetZero and SMART Buildings teams on re-writing the norms for lighting design, keeping sustainability and technology at the heart of our designs.


  • We work on a huge range of lighting projects from heritage schemes to retail environments, commercial office spaces & landmark buildings across the UK and Worldwide.
  • We are a young and diverse team with strong creative and design backgrounds in theatre design, industrial design, product design and electrical engineering.
  • Our team is about growth and we encourage you to develop within the team, in both creativity and professional status.
  • We are based within the WSP Manchester office, but also travel to our other office spaces and of course to project locations.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • You have experience of presenting to clients and want to build on this skill
  • You’re looking to increase your lighting industry knowledge and grow within a team
  • You have experience of working with Revit, AutoCAD, Dialux/ Relux, InDesign or other 3D design software.


  • A design based, lighting design based or engineering based degree / lighting design HNC/HND or design apprenticeship/ industry experience.
  • Student or Associate Membership of CIBSE SLL/ IALD or ILP or willingness to join/ improve your professional status
