The Role

Reporting to The Chief Buying Officer, The Head of Contracting, is responsible for providing a clear product development plan for the UK and Ireland, supported by a contracting strategy that underpins the delivery of the company business plan. The role also has full responsibility for the delivery of those plans, working with key stakeholders within the business and outside, to ensure a joined up approach.

The Product and Contracting team has a critical role in helping to deliver on the company’s growth plans, and this role will be responsible for the evolution of that team, in support of the Chief Buying Officer.

Key Roles:

  • Working with the Chief Buying Officer to define the product & procurement strategy of YGT.
  • Work with the team to build business plans and forecasts to support the strategy
  • Manage & Mentor the Product & Procurement teams

Key Objectives:

  • Have ultimate responsibility for our UK and Ireland Product, including accommodation, golf courses, transport services and attractions, sights and services.
  • Establish short and long term Product Development plans, identifying needs, gaps and opportunities, with a clear focus on different market segments and driven by feasibility study and demand data.
  • Establish appropriate solutions and create a procurement plan that meets these needs, whilst evolving the company’s approach to supplier management and contracting to increase value and efficiency.
  • Creation, development and ownership of the pricing strategy and margin performance of the business.
  • Maintain a direct working relationship with ‘Tier 1’ suppliers to create strong, mutually beneficial commercial relationships. This would include a particular focus on the most valuable supplier relationships, and development of the next generation of critical supplier relationships.

Managing People:

  • Continue the establishment of the domestic Product & Contracting team
  • Leadership of the Product and Contracting team, focussing on delivery of strategy and contracting plan, and the definition of team and individual targets and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in Product Development, Procurement & Distribution within the Travel industry, and ideally in a B to C environment
  • The ability to demonstrate a successful track record in improving volume, turnover and net profit contribution in line with the strategic objectives
  • Be able to show a record of developing and bringing to market successful new products
  • Up to date knowledge of international market trends in Product Development & Procurement
  • Possess established relationships across key supply chain both domestically and internationally
  • Have a capacity to conceive and develop a clearly defined product development and procurement distribution strategy which will drive growth, identifying opportunities and solutions through effective planning and analysis.
  • A proven ability in building new teams and developing new areas of business introducing appropriate processes, structure and measures of success.
  • Experience in formulating annual business plans, monitoring and reporting as well as a strong appreciation of financial management, planning & budgetary control
  • The ability to build highly & productive relationships across internal departments and with a range of external stakeholders, ensuring common goals are achieved.
  • Experience of working as part of a cohesive team focused on continuous improvement
  • A strong mentoring approach with colleagues, with experience of leading and developing the skills of staff instilling a strong commercial ethos.
  • High levels of self-motivation and resilience and the ability to meet demanding targets within deadlines.
  • You should also be an exceptional communicator, creator and innovator with the desire & energy to succeed in a growth environment
  • Foreign languages, and an interest in golf or sports travel are both assets, but not essential.
